My wife and I recently became friends with the Hoffmann Family from Germany. They are new this area, but have recently bought a condo in Naples and hope to spend about six weeks a year here. I invited them to go sailing on the 8th. My invitation was sincere, but I think I forgot to count up how many folks would be aboard if they all came...and they did.

My wife Linda and son Robbie were also coming along to serve as crew

That's Linda at the helm and me with the worry face

Popped out Gordon Pass and, thanks to a steady east wind, it wasn't long before we could see the Naples Pier off the starboard bow.

I don't think the smiles could get much bigger as we put the pier behind us and prepare to turn for the trip back.

Klaus looked a little concerned when I unexpectedly handed him the tiller extension and said "Here, can you steer a minute ?" but after me saying 'push and "pull" a few times he got the hang of it and kept her perfectly balanced the whole way back.

The kid's (all brand new Gator Fan's..thanks to the pariphanaila we supplied) practiced doing the Gator Chomp ...and we even got Grandma into the cat bird seat.

Next we anchored off Keywadin Island for a swim in the Gulf...The water temp was 65 degree's....They were almost hyperventalating when they got out... but then they would just jump right back in.

Son Robbie at the helm on the final leg ...and ..A toast to welcome the a newest member to the sailing fraternity.

Hi Bob,
So this was today? You couldn't have picked much better! It got to at least 78 here. Very cool! I'm sitting here at All Storage just wishing I could be out, and hoping the arrival of our next cold front is pushed back a few days so I can get out this week-end. Thanks for the pics and story!! Dave

Bob,

Looks like you handled things fine with all those smiles and with so many onboard ! We have had a brief period of warm temps - It was in the 60s yesterday and 70F today. I was able to go sailing yesterday but passed on it today. Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate for the weekend !

Today was 60+ on the CT shore... Too bad the travellift couldn't get to my boat--for about $175 I could've gone out.

Uh, did you have enough PDFs for the whole crew?

At first I thought this was a great way to repair international relations. Then I saw the UF stuff. No wonder the world hates us.

Looks like a great day, but was that left arm thing a turn signal? The 'Noles are coming back!
