Got my new Honda 8hp today. I've found that because of the carrying handle on the front of the engine I'm unable to tilt the engine far enough to get the prop out of the water. Anyone else have this problem?

Well that's a bummer.

Could you inset a piece of wood/Starboard on top of the OB cutout and raise it enough?

Other option is to remove the handle. We never remove our Honda. It is a 2000 9.9 and doesn't have the tilt problem.

Our OB wells seem pretty standard. Seems like a bad design buy Honda.

First thought I had was removing the handle, have to take the engine off to do that, I think. Second thought was to put some kind of spacer to raise the engine maybe an inch so the carrying handle will fold all the way down. I don't see ever removing the engine so the handle is of no use, removing it may be the answer. Thanks for your input Randy. What lake do you sail on? My sister and husband have a Catalina 22 on a lake in the Eugene area.

Steve, Fern Ridge lake, Eugene Yacht Club. If your sister lives anywhere near Eugene then their boat is probably at Fern Ridge.

I took the handle off mine, 9.9 Honda for that reason. The motor must come off as the holding bolt goes all the way through. Two people makes this a much easier project.

Randy, yes, they keep their boat at Fern Ridge.

kb, that's what I thought, engine must come off to remove the handle bolt. I'll grab some young, strong dock kid to help me with it.

I had a 200x Honda 8, but never a C-250, so I can't picture the problem. I thought my handle folded flat if I did it before clamping the engine to my bracket...

Dave, the problem is the well just forward of the engine, it's not deep enough for the handle to fold down.
