Ok, my curiosity has gotten the best of me. I have a 1980 Catalina 25, fin keel, tall rig with hull number 2092. I have owned many other boats, know how to read the mfg plate and/or etching in the hull so I know that my boat was built in 1980 and is hull 2092. However, I look on this forum at boats built in a several year span with hull numbers all over the place -- some older with higher numbers than mine and some newer with lower numbers. What am I missing? In the course of human events, sailing, telling nautical tales of the last race, etc, it really does not matter -- but -- in my process engineering mode I scratch my head and say "huh!?" Can anyone in this August group shed some light on the subject?
