Thanks, because of a bridge going over the lake, the usable length for all but the smaller sailboats is about 4-5 miles starting at the dam. Its got good width and provides plenty of room for racing. The lake is a designated wildlife reserve, with a 300' setback, so no homes or personal docks along the shore, only a few commercial marinas, park facilities, and a YMCA camp. We love it. Only downside is we are land-locked. The other lake in Nashville, 10 miles away, is on the Cumberland River. Not as pretty, but from there you can go by water all the way to the Gulf. Let me add that my slip rent last May was just under $1K for 12 months. We've gotten a lot of dock upgrades this year, and all new electrical is on the way, so I'm a bit anxious about how much it's going up. The other marinas on the lake are around $130-150 per month.

Dave - Yep Brewer's. I haven't hit BYY Mystic yet, but I'll surely put it on the list for Summer 08.
I guess I'll weigh in . . . The real issue is what's available that offers the best cost/use. A low cost that is never used may be more expensive than a costy but convenient location. Every year we all look at the increaased rates and grumble and/or look for options. As my time is very tight, I invested in joining/buying into a condo club which, while not the cheapest, is VERY convenient and with a great bunch of people. If I had more time, I would look farther into the hinterlands for a less costly home. I also have a center console ob, that I drive a long distance for winter storage so to save considerably -- not practicle for a fin kel sailboat though. If I were making the decision it would be where will I use the boat the most. Stay on all the lists for the closer/better places, but don't lose the opportunity to enjoy your boat!
