Our Catalina 1999 250K, "Moonpenny" #418 has been purchased by a very nice couple, and will be sailing now on Delaware Bay. We know you will all make them welcome on this web site, and if you see them, on the water as well.
It's been my pleasure to confer with you on issues of mutual interest the past several years. A special thanks to Arlyn for the open cable steering kit, and to someone whose's name I've forgotten, that made the stainless steel mast gate. Both items made a big difference in our enjoyment of the boat. I will continue to lurk here on occasion, but will need to spend more time on the site specifically for my new boat.
Fair winds to all you Catalina sailors. We'll miss not being part of the Catalina family.
I bought a 1982 Sabre 34 Mark I, that I am completely restoring to new condition. I like Catalinas, but was looking for something with a bit more weight in the keel. The Sabre 34 handles the swells, chop and gusty winds of the North Atlantic very well.
I was considering keeping the Catalina 250, but I won't have the time to enjoy both boats. It will be a great boat for someone who wants a new boat, but doesn't want to pay today's new prices. The trailer is also like new - and as stated in the Triad listing, would cost about $5k new.
I guess I should tell you, Alan, that Moonpenny appears as the background for my PC. Since I still have no pictures of Kaija sailing, whenever anybody wants to see a picture of my boat I show them Moonpenny.
Good luck with the sale of this terrific boat. I wish Kaija was as well equipped!
Glad to hear you like the photo of Moonpenny. It has made the rounds from BoatUS magazine, to this web site, and apparently beyond.
My daughter took several pictures of us under sail that day. Unfortunately the wind was very strong and gusty in the harbor, so we were reefed.
Granted I might be a bit predjudiced, but she's a very pretty boat. Sailing friends at dinner last evening were surprised I had listed Moonpenny as cheaply as I did, considering all the "extras", and the price of a new boat and Triad trailer. I still think it's a fair starting point, but I guess time will tell.
