If the admiral had not required electric start, I would have bought one instead of the 9.8 Nissan I did buy. Tohatsu and Nissan are the same engine. If your primary reason for an o/b is getting in and out of the slip, and onto a trailer, and you don't think you'll need to motor against strong winds, it ought to suffice. Get the 25" shaft! Actually, I think that the 8hp is just about ideal for the C-25, it's a little bit lighter and less expensive, but I could not get it with electric start and 25" shaft, only 20" shaft. Go figure. there are several threads here on the outboard subject.
I'm on an inland lake ( Lake Lanier ) so it sounds like it would be just fine. The search came up with one happy user. It just sounds so strange to have a one cylinder engine.
I've also got a 5hp Merc 4-stroke 20" shaft, and for most of my situations, it would be enough, but the shaft is not long enough for the new mount I installed last spring. That, plus the elec. start, is why I upgraded to the 9.8. Are you a member of LLSC, and do you know Dennis Slaton from the C-22 fleet there?
