Hello, My name is Kendall and I'm in Sea scout Ship 247 (sorta like a boy scout unit) here in Boynton Beach Florida. Our ship has been around for a little over a year and in September a sailboat was donated to us from an older gentleman in Del Ray Beach. The Boat in Question, a '79 SK/SR Cat25 #961. This sailboat had been very neglected, having never been touched for over two years, obviously the boat need a lot of work (over fifteen hundred dollars worth)not including hundreds of hours of labor, donated engine work, donated bottom job and paint, donated drydock, and a donated slip. We named the boat "Scylla" after a mythical beast in Homers the odyssey. To say the least we are exhausted but just happy she floats. Throughout restoration, I and my shipmembers have looked at this site numerous times and would like to express our gratitude. And, so last saturday, the 9th, we sailed the boat for the first time. It was a blast! After motoring out of our slip at Riviera Beach Municipal Marina, around Peanut island, through the Lake Worth inlet, we set sail and sailed up and back along the coastline for almost five hours. Then we motored back in when it started raining, and hastily covered the sails and packed up. I am telling this not only to document the voyage, but to say thanks.
Thanks for sharing your story ! My mother lives in Boynton Beach area...she lives in a development..probably about 7-8 miles west of A1A...think the development is called the Cascades.
Congratulations on successfully completing a big project. It's apparent that you're enjoying the rewards for your efforts. I'm looking out the window at snow and ice and below freezing temps, and would love to be able to go sailing in shorts and tees.
Congrads on your boat restoration, she looks great! I've sailed by Peanut Island a few times on my way south, that can get a little hectic on a blustery day or if there's ship traffic. Loved the pics!
How very cool. You make us all proud. So do you have tunes on board yet? By the way, that big locker in the cockpit is for sails, not ice and a keg, have fun.
OLarryR - I know exactly where the cascades is. They say that its just a small world after all. SteveMilby - Ive moved from Brooklyn a few years ago and love that I get walk around in shorts and a t shirt in February. DaveR - In the 10th picture you can see peanut island in the background to the right. All those Motor boats in the deep water inlet did give us quite a scare, ignoring the no wake zone and all. dliuier - It as amazing to see her literally splash into the water about a month ago. we are very pleased. ClamBeach - We still have a ways to go, but mostly cosmetic. Frank Hopper - We dont have tunes yet or even a VHF but are planing to buy a handheld and a bring a boombox. The brewskys are for the dockhands who are very good to us.
Great story and great pictures. You have to be very proud. Wonder where the boat will take you. Share your cruise stories. May you always have steady winds.
Kendall, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story with us. You guys did a wonderful job on that boat and you deserve every pleasure she will bring you. Way to go!

Where was she a cadet? My daughter was a Sea Cadet for 5 years, two years in Parksville BC and 3 years in Calgary.
Our local Power and Sail Squadron has a sailing program in which the Sea Cadets use our boats. Like the young man that posted these pictures demonstates with his actions and deeds, these programs are outstanding and produce quality citizens.
Id like to thank everyone for the support, especially Roberoo who Ive sent an address. We are going to go sailing again on February the 24th. So look out on this thread for more pictures. I would again like to say thanks for all the praise. Also I included some links to local newspaper articles for anyone interested. And Dave, Im the young man in the silver PFD.
Kendall The VHF and GPS will be on their way Monday via FedEx Ground. I will forward tracking info.
Stampeder:
We live on the Niagara Border I am a US Citizen and My Wife is Canadian and Step-daughter is dual Citizenship. So we live in US (Grand Island- From My back Yard I can see the mist of the Niagara Falls).
Marissa is a member of the Niagara falls Ship. This is her first year. She is going to the 2 week camp this summer. The Canadian program is really very well organized. As a kid i was in the Civil Air Patrol and the sea cadets reminds me of that program.
All in all it is really cool to see young people doing something other than video games and TV.
Kendall Congratulations, you guys should be very proud. Makes me proud to see what good kids are doing with there time these days. Continuted success. John On Ma Achsa
I am a great believer in supporting groups like this. It is not unheard of for associatons such as ours to sponsor groups like Sea Scout Ship 247. To further their interest in the C25 and this site, I would like to make a motion that we make this group honorary members of this association with all privledges except voting.
I noticed two things on your group's boat. First, you don't seem to have the poptop. Second, you seem to have some type of track for your main sail. Can you give us some more pictures of it.
Well, Im sorry it took such along time to get back to you all but its been a hectic few months. We finally got to take the boat out again on sunday and it was a ton of fun. We had some problems, including the Boom vang snapping (already fixed but not on the boat) and the engine not shifting. Yes, the mount is broken and it wouldnt tilt out of the water, so there was so much growth the the prop had seized on our little Yamaha 9.9 four-cycle (hopefully will be fixed soon) Meanwhile, our sister ship, Ship 777, was also their sail their 33-footer and 18 foot motor boat which gave us a lift out of the marina. Once we got out there, it was great sailing up and down the coast for five hours. I really hope we can get more interest in sailing the boat perhaps every two weeks. Once again I thank this association for providing this wonderful database of otherwise forgotten knowledge.
Cris Z - The sailtrack was made by tides marine (donated by a wealthy businessman) with it, new sheaves, and a new set of halyards the main raises like a dream with minimal effort. http://www.tidesmarine.com/sail-track.html
Roberoo - Thanks once again for the GPS which has already been put to use and the VHF will be installed soon
