I did a search and looked through the tech tips but cannot find what I'm looking for. Somewhere I saw a rig similar to an A-Frame but instead of being in front of the mast it's behind the mast and uses a gooseneck slide in the mainsail track to keep the mast from moving side to side.
Has anyone else seen this rig? If so, can you point me to the link?
Have you checked out Arlyn Stewart's device last posted here in 2004? As I recall his unit had an A frame (made of 2"X4"s forward of the mast and used a small winch mounted on the A frame. There was a line from the A frame to the stem fitting and a line from the winch up over the pulley affixed to the top of the A frame thence to the mast, this raised the mast. The A frame bases were affixed to the deck ( probably to a stanchion base). Having provided so clear a discription you will no doubt run to the archives to see first hand what I think is one of the better mast raising devices.
I built the 'Bear's Abode' A frame in the technical tips section and after 15 or so mast raisings, am of the humble opinion that the mast is best raised from the stern and lowered toward the stern. I don't recall a method as you describe. Why do you want a rig that's behind the mast?
