<font color="blue"><font size="4"><font face="Comic Sans MS">Kim During the 5 weeks of no sailing I had the on board battery charger on to keep the two 4d batteries charged which were setup on the 1-2-B switch as the #1 start and #2 house battery and once a week I would check the battery voltage with that Catalina factory installed volt meter...and of course I had the bilge pump switch set to auto.
Standard starting proceedure was put the 1-2-B switch on number 1 position for starting engine then placed 1-2-B switch to Both after engine started keep both batteries charged.
After 5 weeks or so I came down one mourning to start the engine and found that both batteries were so low I could not start the engine. Well that was a situation I would not want to be in again so I went home started sketching up a wiring diagram that would save the world. I sent the sketch to this guy on the Catalina 34site who wrote an article about adding a start battery and he sent back the sketch with some remarks....mainly keep it simple.
Old set up and this got by the boat surveyor...yea all electronics were tested and ok. The charger would show battery charged but no amount of amps charging with small load on ....that was my mistake.
New set up with Costco 600 CCA start battery and battery charger ground wire hooked up. Revised bracing not all of it showing in picture and some secrect grease for all battery lead connections.
<b>Thanks Stu</b>
