One of my fellow sailing club members just bought a 2007 Catalina 309. Very nice boat. It had a good deck and cockpit layout. The jib sheet winches were beside the wheel so you could adjust your headsail from the wheel if you want to. The older Catalina 30's 34's aand 36's all have the winches more forward and it would make adjusting them harder, unless you had 6' arms.
I like the sugar scoop transom, and the stern perch seats. This boat was set up really nice as it was a demo for the dealer. It had a dodger, bimini, air conditioning, and lots of other nice stuff.
I really like the traveler setup, with lines led underneath the traveler bar.
It has an in mast mainsail furler. I wouldn't want one of those.
At least it had massive standing rigging, not like a Hunter.
Overall a very nice boat. But I like my new/used Ericson 32 a lot better. I'll bet it was lots cheaper too.
If you have a chance to check one of them out, do so. Our boys at the factory are on to something.
The dealer took in my friend's Macgregor on a trade, and gave them within 3 grand of what they paid for it on a trade in value. I'm sure it's like used car trade ins, where they play games with the numbers.
But I bet you could get a good trade in with a Catalina 25.
OH NO Frank put an evil thought in my head
I wanna 309, I wanna 309...........

I agree... I don't know how the 309 would do against the 30 on the racecourse, but for livablity and ease-of-sailing, it looks like a great improvement--as usual, the standout value in its class.

<font color="blue"><font size="4"><font face="Comic Sans MS">The Catalina 309 port lazarete is so big that you can stand up in it.
The jib sheet foot blocks are one foot away from the winch.
All the refinements I would like to do to my Catalina 310 come standard on the Catalina 309 and if you went over board the swim ladder is within an easy reach.
The workmanship is 10 fold my 2002 C310.....
