The teak pieces that keep the hatchboards in place were cracked lengthwise and glued back together by a previous owner (coat snagged he said). He did a so-so job, I'd like to replace them. There is also corner wear on the teak strips that house the sliding cabin top.
Any recommendations for replacement parts?
Much appreciated,
Paul Schrynemakers Capri 25 #206 Port Washington, NY
Mine has the same problem. Starbord side has a split starting at the bottom. It is not all the way up so I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. It looks like that could be made from a piece of teak 2x2 (1.5"x1.5"). If you have access to a table saw to cut the rabit for the boards to slide into and a miter saw to cut the miter angle on the ends it should be pretty easy to make.
I purchased a 1980 Capri 25 that had been neglected for 15 years. The companionway teak was rotted. I did a query on Craigslist and found a guy/woodworker who not only had the teak I needed but was able to fashion the exact piece from my original one. It works and looks very nice. This cost me about $40.00 for all. He used the real teak, not the fake teak-wannabe stuff.
The guy that I found on craigslist just by fluke had the correct piece of teak I needed. To clarify - I just needed the bottom piece, not the side edges. He happened to have it and cut it using my old rotten one as a template.
I did contact him and asked if he would be interested in doing some more boat projects. Right now he is fixing his home up to get on the market so cannot do any projects. He did promise me that he would let me know when he is ready to take on more.
I promise the rest of you that if and when he lets me know I will pass on his information per his permission. He really knows his wood.
There are many local woodworkers clubs in various cities. They are a wealth of information on wood and techniques. He also gave me advice on replacing my aft bulkheads.
I just got lucky on that one, but will keep you guys posted if his schedule frees up.
