My wife and I wanted cockpit cushions as well. We looked into pre-made cushions and they were very expensive. What my wife ended up doing was buying some 2 inch think closed cell foam on ebay, cutting it to fit, gluing it with contact cement where needed, and covering with Sunbrella fabric, also purchased for significant savings on ebay. The hardest part was making a pattern to cut the foam and fabric to fit. It took a lot of newspaper and tape to get it all together, but it eventually worked quite well. If you do this, remember that closed-cell foam does not bend the way other foams do, so you must put the zipper on the short end and shimmy the foam into the cover from the short end. Fortunately, my wife discovered this when she was making the cover for the small piece of foam (we made a two-piece cushion for one side of the cockpit so that we could get access to the locker without making everyone sitting on that side get up). When she went to bend the cushion to get it into the cover, oops, it would not bend, so she had to remake the end of the cushion to slide it in the short end of the cover. You must have a heavy duty sewing machine to work with Sunbrella, but we have an old Singer that was up to the task. We will post pictures later this spring of the new covers she made for the interior of the boat, curtains, and the exterior cockpit cushions and covers that she made.
