Their was a comment mentioned in one of these forums about supporting all the c25 wt on the fin keel. Will this hurt the boat, and cause a catalina smile or structure weakness?.Reason I am asking, while I am retreive my c25 on my trailer I would like to be able to jack it from the bottom of the fin keel to do maintinance(paint) on the bottom of the fin keel. Will this cause structure harm to the boat? Thabk you for your comments...Don
It shouldn't hurt a boat, if it's in sound condition, and doesn't have hidden structural damage. Boats are regularly stored on the hard during the winter by setting the keel on a plank on the ground, with 4-6 jacks placed around them to support them. The jacks don't really carry much weight. They mostly balance the boat, and keep it from falling to one side or the other.
Nevertheless, on my EZ Loader trailer, the keel sat on a support member that had two big bolts. Those bolts could be unscrewed, and the support member would drop out from under the keel. When the keel support member was lowered, the weight of the boat was carried by the bunks. With the keel support out of the way, you could sand and paint the bottom of it. You might examine your trailer and see if it has a similar mechanism.
