Well, later this week I'll be off again on yet another try at Newport - Ensenada. I'll be on my friend's S2 8.5 with Charlie (Sterngucker - C250) as crew plus the owners son. The boat is really well equipped this year, with all new UK sails, new standing and new running rigging. We had a nice practice run yesterday afternoon and flew the asym as well as worked the boat on all points of sail in about 15 knots of breeze.
Wish us well, it should be a great adventure. There are 13 boats in our class - PHRF K, and we are the second fastest by rating. The S2 rates a 174 and with the new sails just may be able to sail to it.
Look for photos and a race journal next week. I have some more work to do on the boat to get it ready. After careful study, I made my own ATN Tacker for $3. Worked good last night. Pray for wind and for a low to pass over us (right now they are talking about "a dome of high pressure" by this weekend - usually a wind killer).
