As part of my regular maintenance, I'm planning on changing the four stainless steel bolts that hold the forward part of the keel.

What width and length are the bolts?

What kind of stainless steel should I use?

What kind of thread lock should be used?

Best place to buy the bolts?

*** And most importantly, can I change these bolts 1 at a time without supporting the keel? ie retract the keel, remove the first bolt, replace it, remove second bolt, replace...etc. I'll be doing this on a dock boat lift, so the boat will be out OVER the water. I may use a cargo strap as insurance.

Thanks all...

The bolts can be purchased from catalina direct. You can call them at 1-800-959-7245. I would not try to substitute anything but catalina parts. as for one bolt at a time. if you retract the keel and support the pivot end with blocks you might be able to do the switch. If you have a trailer why not set her down there and replace the keel bolts there. the main thing is to not let the weight of the keel stress the bolts. If the keel is unsupported when you let down one bolt the other three take all the load. This is not bad when you let out the first bolt because the bolts being stressed are coming out next. But after that you will be stressing your new bolts.
I don't think a cargo strap would work unless you could get it really tight.

The best people to ask are the tech advice staff at Catalina Direct.
you will have to pay for that call. 906-843-7245

Good luck
