Zincs were not factory installed on your boat. If you have them they would most likely be on your keel. Ideal location for a SK would be on the trailing edge by the cable attachment or near the leading edge by the hinge. You should also have one on your OB - your manufacturer will have an attachment point, likely on the cavitation plate.

The factory recommended location is as close to the pivot assembly as possible. Tear drops are what I use, each side of the keel near the pivot and one near the cable attachment. A day sail would be OK, but don't leave it in saltwater without zincs. Drilling and tapping the keel for the zincs is pretty easy.

If you drill through, you don't have to tap... but that seems like a lot of drilling in cast iron.

OK, time for a stupid question from the C-250 side, I haven't seen any zincs on my boat, but I'm also reasonably sure that we have lead keels, not cast iron like the C-25's. I should probably post this in the C-250 forum, but if they're like me they read all the forums anyway. I know I have them on both of my outboards (main & dinghy), but as far as I know, not on the boat.

...because your boat has no exposed metal below the waterline. (?) The lead is inside a fiberglass shell, and is virtually non-corrodible anyway. A zinc anode protects another metal that it is in contact with by being the most easily corroded metal of the two. But there has to be "electrical" contact with the other metal. (...and the zinc should not be painted.)
