I bought some Taylor 6 x 22" fenders a few years ago. They were brand new and end of season sale.
I used a ball needle to put air in one of them and the air immediately leaked out. I figured I ruined the valve with the ball needle. I have had air leak out of the valve on EVERY ball I ever tried to inflate so I am now guessing that I don't know how to use a ball needle.
I inflated the second fender by pressing my air nozzle against the outside of the valve and forced the air through the vale and inflated that fender. No chance to ruin that valve with a needle.
Now they're both flat.
What is the trick to putting air in these fenders and having it stay there?

I am not sure where I picked this up from but i always wet the needle before I stick it into a basketball, fender, etc. But I would not think it is such a big deal and your fenders should not leak

The good news is that if the fender valve is defective, the Taylor products have a lifetime warranty and a West marine store should replace it for free even if you did not buy it there. At least that was the case for me when I brought back a fender from the PO because of a very small leak in the valve.

You could bring with you your needle and pump to the store and perhaps they can see what the story is...and if defective, then replace the fender.

I squirt a little WD-40 on the valve, which in turn lubes the needle as it goes in and makes it pull out easier.

Or, you could go to walmart and buy fenders for $6.99 each ($9.99 for bigger ones) that work just as well. If they go flat after a year, go back to walmart and buy some more. But, mine are just fine 2 years later.

You can buy cheap ones, but I have some Taylor fenders in decent shape from 1972.

and...there is no need to buy another Taylor fender if it leaks ....they are warranted for life. I found this out when I was talking to a West Marine guy and he told me to just bring it in and they will give me a new one ! Why buy one when you can get one for free ?

I got 2 Taylor Made from Defender recently and just stuck in needle. I haven't had any problems. But wetting needle now comes back to me from elementary school.
I would return to store for replacements.

I remember learning that one could wet the needle with liquid soap.

I never thought of using WD-40 before, and I always have a can of that nearby.
