Hello everyone, Im a new owner of a 89 cat25 wing keel and also very new to sailing My question is what is the largest gas tank you can fit in the outside compartment? I have a 3 gal tank now, looks like I could probably put two side by side in there? I have a 4 stroke 9.9 honda if that matters.
I love this forum learning alot

Thanks
Ted

Mine is 6 gallons. It fits perfectly length and width wise. You might be able to get one in there that is higher (taller) in dimension.

I also have an '89. I gave the old 6 gallon gas tank away with the used outboard. The 6 gallon gas tank that I had, did fit into the outside gas compartment. My new Honda 4 stroke 9.9hp came with a 3 gallon tank. While that easily fits into the compartment, I am not all that sure that another 3 gallon would fit next to it.

For me, the efficiency of the 4 stroke outboard means that the 3 gallon gas tank is sufficient for all my sailing adventures (at least up to now). I do not have to refuel that often and yet I sail frequently. This also ensures that whatever gas is in that tank never stays there all that long before I then have to refuel. I probably average refuelling every 1 to 1 1/2 months. Sometimes sooner and sometimes later depending on how long I needed to run the outboard and if it was summer or winter...since I also sail in the winter months.

If and when I plan an extended trip, I probably will buy a 6 gallon to be on the safe side on the chance I may need to motor for many miles.
