Underway, I don't like to use the head with the door closed; too restricted, and it won't stay open, so I rigged a latch that attaches it to the lower step of the companionway ladder. Since the door opens aft, I/we still have a degree of privacy when nature calls. I'll post a pic.

What weird responses from you privacy freaks. Many "real" sailors only use poop buckets. I'm still gonna post a pic.

Okay, you guys leave Frank alone.

Anyway, Frank your winged-keel has more "headroom" then my water-ballast (I couldn't stop myself).
I can "back-in" but can't stand up (this is getting worse).
I don't keep the door open when in use.
Afterwards, I can only stand when the sliding hatch is pushed forward, then I stay behind the door to you might say, "fix my foulies".

Ok then I gonna bug you. Doesn't your 05 WB have a pop-top? to give you more headroom while pulling up your pants.

OK, we've given Frank a lot of crap so let's hope it doesn't piss him off. The guy is always flush with ideas and I appreciate his sharing them.

Yes it does, but I keep the pop-top down while underway.
I do slide the hatch forward so I can stand.
There's not much space between the open hatch and standing behind the door.

I will take a stab at this, "Boys will be boys!"
Hey re the latch to the ladder, I might be afraid to stub my toe. How about attaching to one side or underneath?

Nicely done Frank. I would be a bit concerned about the door blocking the steps and it being tough to release it if entering the cabin.
(but then that we would have to deal with the privacy issue all over again)

It just occurred to me that, if you're alone on the boat, why not just lift up the steps high enough to allow the door to open flat against the wall and then lower the steps again thereby preventing closure?

John, it's impossible to open the head door under the raised steps; they don't raise high enough; in fact they almost block the door opening.
As to piseas comment about stubbing his toe, WEAR BOAT SHOES!
And britinusa's comment re the door latch being "tough to release", look closely at the pic: easy to kick the latch out to starboard. But if a crew is using the head, why would it be necessary for another crew member to go below?
