I will be racing our 1987 Cat 25, std rig, wing keel up at our local lake. Where can I get a rating certificate ? Lake is 14 miles round at 7,000 feet. We will be competing in the handicapped open class
ere should be a regional PHRF association affiliated with that lake or that area.
What is the particular pond you are going to race? (FYI size and depth of the body of water usually don't come into play with the rating) [/quote]
We sail at Huntington Lake Calif. The lake is man made for Hydro electricity. Huntington is at 7,000 feet. 14 miles, cold mountain water, the breeze begins at 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
I just got mine, and according to the sailing chair at our club U.S. Sailing says a Catalina 25 std rig, wing keel has a base rating of 231. Good luck.
Don's rating is the norm. US Sailing has the 25 standard between 228 and 231 in most locations however the base rating is adjusted for many things in many locations. Course type, typical weather, historical results all play factors. The process for determining the rating is not by any means cut and dry.
I'd also check with the Fresno Yacht Club. They have the most PHRF rated boats in the area and will know where you need to go to get a certificate. This is from their website for the High Sierra race:
Q: How & where do I get a PHRF Certificate? A: Certificates can be obtained from a number of jurisdictions. Section 2.4 in the Notice of Race states, "any jurisdiction accepted". You may obtain a certificate from YRA, (they would be the quickest), NorCal PHRF YRA, and others. The certificate must be submitted before the race. http://www.yra.org/
Check with the local club which will be hosting the races. They may have their own rating application procedure (our club does) for assigning a rating.
