My wife and I have a Catalina 22 docked in Sandusky and would like to upgrade to possibly a new 250. The closest dealer is in Cincy so I was curious if anyone in the Sandusky area with a 250 would be willing to show us their boat. We're heading up their tonight and will likely stay through the weekend. Give me a call at 216-952-9481 if you can help.
Welcome Mark! I live in Oregon so that is probably too far for you to drive. If someone here is near you I am sure they will speak up.
We moved form a C22 to our C250WK. What a great move! Much more room in the cockpit and cabin, enclosed head, and other amenities that make sailing and longer cruises (we go out two weeks) a lot of fun. Feel free to post any questions you have about options.
Two big choices: Wing or Water Ballast; and Tiller or Wheel.
We went with the wing because we like the extra headroom and we don't trailer sail. Our boat is in a slip.
We went with the wheel because I like the feel of it, it allows a pedestal which is a platform for table, GPS, radio, etc, and the wheel makes me look like Captain Jack Sparrow!
Others here have water ballast and tillers and all the combinations. We're here to help and, if you buy the 250, please join the Association and participate in the forum.
We'll be looking at a wing keel model, I've found two out there a 2007 and a 2008. I've been told that the 2008 has a superiour hull to deck joint but I'm not sure how much value to place on that. I do like to 2008 opening windows however. I like the wheel as well, would also like the controls mounted on the wheel for ease of docking.
I have a 1999 250 Wing Keel on Sandusky Bay at the Sandusky Harbor Marina. I'll be happy to show it to you. I have a long, sad story about not yet sailing her this season so I hope to be there in the morning and sail with my family. My plans are not yet firm as to time. I'm also in the Cleveland area. I'll call ya.
