Has anyone launched your boat from Deception Pass launch in the State Park? It looks like a nice launch with 4 lanes and two floats. I Google mapped it (satellite view) and it looks good. Just curious the steepness of the ramp. It is getting spendy to have the boat picked at Cap Sante Marine or Skyline Marine. It is about $170 to go round trip and Cap Sante only does weekday launches now- didn't check schedules at Skyline. Anyway, I'd rather keep my $170. The hard part is rigging the boat. The easy part is floating it off the trailer.
I am heading up to San Juan Islands 6/28/08 for 10 days and plan to launch retrieve at the State Park. I will launch as tide is coming in, so I can have time to park the truck/trailer and catch the flood tide back through the pass. Reverse process for retrieving. I launch/retrive at my marina @ Boston Harbor, but the ramp is steep enough I don't have any problems getting the trailer deep enough with just the extended tongue. I like to keep the truck out of the salt water. Trying to avoid a strap launch.
Why not use Cap Sante Marina? According to their web site Cap Sante Marina (run by the City of Anacortes) lifts every day and round trip is $55. Cap Sante Marine is a private outfit.
Cap Sante Marina is a great take-off point but you must raise the mast after getting lifted it. Maybe that is the problem. If you plan to cruise in the San Juans often I would recommend that you invest in a gin-pole setup so you can get lifted in at Cap Sante. Also, if you do not go that route, strap launching is easy to do.
welshoff I helped my neighbor launch his boat there last year. I forget how much it cost, you deposit the fee in a box as I remember. No problem at ramps with waves. The pro is they have a lot of dock space, trailer parking and you have the option of raising your mast in the parking lot. I don't know about long term parking.
Washington Park in Anacortes has nice boat ramps and have not seen any problems except the usual entertainment.
Cap Sante as Randy mentioned is not that expensive, the con at Sante is hours of operation.

Randy, The $55.00 lift is the small sling lift. You will have to raise your mast when the boat is in the water - not on the trailer. The larger travel lift is the price I quoted. From my phone call to them, the large travel lift is now at the South Yard? It sounds like there are two different operations? Small lift at Cap Sante Marina and large lift at Cap Sante Marine? If you know different let me know.
Paul, I was wondering about Washington Park. I wasn't sure what the facility was like?
I will keep you posted on where I launch. We may have to postpone trip to later in the year now due to kids camps and a project at work. I will make it up there before the summer is out.
Wil, correct. Cap Sante Marina is the city-operated marina with the smaller lift. It is a terrific marina but you do need to raise the mast in the water.
Cap Sante Marine is a private company with the bigger lift.
Personally, I would rather implement a gin-pole setup than put my trailer in salt water.
