I'm impressed!

Celebrating my 6th year as a US citizen.

We didn't go out over the weekend, amongst otherthings, our marina (Black Point Marina in Biscayne Bay) clears out all the trailers for the 4th firework display, so we would have been unable to park for the weekend.

Funny story about my first 4th of July in Austin (20 years ago). I had a new day sailer and heard there was a fireworks display launched from shore at one of the harbors, so I sailed up there in the afternoon. I tossed out an anchor and spent the evening swimming and eating dinner. As twilight settled in other boats began to arrive, all anchoring in a large semicircle around me, but 100 yds away, so I was in the center alone. As it got dark I begin to worry that I was the center of attention and no one was coming near me. When the fireworks began I found that I was directly beneath them. It was scarey and yet exhilirating to watch fireworks that way, but I stayed there in spite of it. The southerly breeze carried sparks and ashes away from me so I was in no danger of being set afire, unless a latent shell were to land directly in the boat. Actually there were no latent shells whatsover, nothing blew up near me and no debris landed in the boat. That was my most memorable 4th of July... but in hindsight, I would move if I found myself in that situation again.
