I believe they were on a delivery trip in a Bayfield 36... which is a pretty capable bluewater boat. No problem handling the conditions as long as they got their sails down... which they did in a big hurry. At 7 kts I don't think they could have avoided the squall line anyway.
I'm not a habitual swearer, but I probably would have uttered a few choice words in that situation myself.
