Due to the short time that I had to get ready for Tropical Storm Eduard I had to tape up the hatchboards and around the hatch using duct tape. It went on Monday evening, the storm came through on Tuesday, it was mostly overcast and raining a good part of the day yesterday, and I removed the tape last evening. The tape came off the boat easily (especially the teak) but left a sticky residue on the fiberglass. I scrubbed it with AJAX and a scrubbing pad but could only get part of it off. I even tried a fine grit sanding block. Nothing seemed to work.

Anyone have a suggestion on what to use to get the sticky residue off of the fiberglass? I thought about gasoline or maybe mineral spirits but I'm not sure what they would do to the fiberglass.

Goo-Gone works well for most sticky stuff. We keep a bottle of it on board.

Will WD40 affect fibreglass, or sink into the teak? I also used Goo-Gone to good effect.

I used Goo Gone recently when we removed our handrails. I taped over the cabin top holes to keep the rain out. The Goo Gone worked great.

Mine was fine. Didn't look like it moved an inch. I moved it to South Shore Harbor for the storm (I go back to Watergate Sunday). What an awesome marina. Makes Watergate look like the slums (at least the part I'm in)! Although it's a lot farther to the bay and a lot more expensive I may move to SSH permanently when my lease is up. I love having wide finger piers on each side of the boat and the atmosphere is really nice.

I have always had good luck getting tape adhesive off with mineral oil. Products such as baby oil and lemon scented furniture polish are scented mineral oils. It is not as agressive as Goof Off and shouldn't hurt the teak, in fact, it will probably make it shine. Dig through your boat box and see if you have the furniture polish on board already, I keep some on mine for the interior teak.

I may try the mineral oil first. If that doesn't work I'll go with Goo Gone or Goof Off.

Thanks again for all the good advice!
