Looks like Fay is giving the area another big dousing... Just what you need! <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dave,

Thanks for your concerns. Actually, I just got back from the lake about 30 minutes ago and everything is going pretty well. The rain has been much more isolated in its intensity, so while parts of the area have had as much as 8 inches, most areas (and the areas that drain into the lake) have only had about 3 inches.

Overall the lake is down about 30 feet from its crest. The road out to Canyon Lake Marina is just about exposed again, however, because the road bed has been submerged for two months, they won't allow any traffic on it until at least three weeks to a month after it is above water level.

Thanks for asking!

Racing was washed out (<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> last Saturday. This Saturday is our Master's Regatta (limited to those skippers who have trophied in the past year) if Fay will cooperate...I haven't had the boat out since MAY!!! (I did crew in the C22 Nationals in June - but that's not the same..) hope I remember how to steer her! How do you Northern sailors stand being on the hard all that time...? I think I'd move South...!<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

OK, Derek... You're South... How much sailing have you been doing, and how much have we Northern sailors been doing? <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> While on the hard, some of us ski, others sit around the fire and watch the snow falling, and a few that I know go SAILING --frostbiting races each Sunday in Dyer Dhows. But they're CRAZY!!! <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well Dave - let's see...we couldn't hold the Summer Series (July & August), the Long Distance Race on July 4th., The Tour de Canyon, the Jamaican Me Crazy, the Fall Fleet Festival (Labor Day) and Day 1 of the Fall Series (because of TS Fay). Apart from these we've had a busy sailing schedule...NOT!<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
This has not been a normal Summer on Canyon Lake- thank heaven that we just keep going all year round from now on.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
BTW Dave - we also have a Frostbite Regatta in January each year - last year was the worst ever - it actually got down to 48 degrees and we needed to wear jackets!!

This is an open invite to anyone washed out by the flood, Dallas is only 4 hours away and you are all welcome to come sail anytime!

Saturdays and Sundays are best, but if you come up on a weekday, arrangements can be made.

Dave, et al.,
the lake is down to 919 and has about another 10' to return to normal. It is falling about 1' per day, of course Fay slowed it down for a few days. We have to take a Pontoon Shuttle out to the Marina since our Road to the Marina is still under and it will be a long walk when the road is exposed because the asphault will take about 30 days to return to where we can drive over it. So we still have about 30-60 days before our lake life returns to normal........happy sailing,
Steve

Steve,

Good news! 'Ruah' is back in the water! David helped me put her in this afternoon and I've got her wet-slipped until the road reopens. The road is fully exposed as of yesterday, so hack you calendar, 30 days from yesterday they will reopen it for traffic.

I actually got in about an hour of sailing this afternoon. Makes me appreciate the feeling our northern-dwelling brothers and sisters get in the spring when they can 'splash' their boats after a winter of no sailing! It's been two and a half months for me. . . and that's too long.

We'll be out Friday night spending the night on the boat with the kids on a mooring and sailing Saturday for a bit. Maybe we'll see you out there. BTW, they are due to start a "golf cart" shuttle from the parking lot on FM 306 to the marina this weekend since they can use the road now. They weren't sure what type of schedule yet. Of course you can always walk the 2 plus miles all the way to the marina (if you don't die of heat stroke first).<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

There might be a few new "obstacles" to make the race interesting... some floating trees, a shed or two, maybe even the roof off a restaurant... <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dave - you don't know how right you are!<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
Most of the debris has collected along the leeward shoreline - but there are still sizeable trees floating around...at least we don't have to worry about the shallow areas that normally need careful navigation!

Derek,

Good to finally put a face (even if from a bit of a distance)with the posts here! Maybe next time we'll be close enough to shake hands!

Hope the race was fun, but I'm afraid we caught the best wind of the day when we were out from 8:30 to 10:00 this morning. The kids had a great time spending the night on the boat, though. That's what's important. See you out there again sometime <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Bren - it was good to see you on Sat. Are you permanently slipped 4 boats down from mine?
You were correct about the wind - we had everything from zero to 5k, but we eked out a 3, a 2 and a 1st. against a Soling 27, S2 7.9, Catalina 30, Cal 25-1 and a J-24. It was so wonderful to be sailing again...a 3 month gap is far too long!.
