There are some good explanations of sail controls here, those who don't understand all of their controls would do well to watch these and apply the information to their own sailing. His explanation of why backstay adjustment on a masthead rig is negligible is particularly amusing, he says adjusting the backstay too tightly on a masthead rig does not flatten your mainsail, instead it will "bend your boat like a banana, and we don't want to do that", rather amusing.
