It appears the big boys as usual can't get on the same page for this America's Cup thing. Quite frankly, I gave up trying to follow all the details of their little catfights about 10 minutes after the conclusion of the last cup. They argue about everything possible and waste precious US court time that could be spent more appropriately on frivolous civil and class action lawsuits.
Last weekend my crew decided over a few cold malted beverages that they could come up with much better rules, have less fighting and have more fun. What we came up with, while sometimes contradictory, numerically ludicrous or downright impossible still had some good ideas. I thought it might be something we could continue here.
Obviously getting those dingdongs to agree on anything seems to be impossible maybe they just need a keg and a sailboat cockpit...That's more than we had! What would you add?
Majority of the deed of gift still stands as far as who is eligible and where you can sail. You can have one solid mono hull sloop sailboat between 40 and 60 feet long and 10 and 15 feet in beam and draw no more than 18% of length. Any other boats cannot race and will be for training only. You can have one mast - which is no more than 130% of the length. It can weigh whatever you want It can have as much sail area as you want and can use any type of sails that you want provided that at least one Tack, Clue or head of the sail is attached to the boat. You can load up as many crew as you want - but must have a minimum of 10 provided they are all from your country and none of them are lawyers. The only movable part of the boat or standing rigging can be the tiller/rudder/steering wheel Boat must be designed in your own country, built in your own country. Open season on running rigging The race will be sailed in anything over 1 kt of wind. Live with it! You must sail the boat to the regatta. A complete dollar for dollar match of what each team spends will go toward global prime time television coverage Round robin 3 races against each competitor to determine the top two challengers, Head to head for top challengers best of 5, best of 7 to determine the cup winner. Total race time only 4 months. Courses and venue are selected by the Cup winners upon acceptance of the cup
You get 2 protests for the challenger series and 2 for challenger finals and 2 for the finals - use them wisely. (Referees and RC can protest at will) The next challenger series will start 20 months after the conclusion of the A Cup - These rules last for 16 years. No chase boats All boats must have a cooler with beer from your own country, 1 case (12oz) per opposing crew member, you lose you lose the beer too. (It was getting late)

so amend mine to say - any number of hulls must be under LOAxBeam ft2 Any number of masts Any weight 10 guys, same country no lawyers beer no laundry collection boat only 2 losts protests per set of series, unlimited wins.
Boat can be designed anywhere.....
ESPN has poker on - I'm sure for enough money they can get Gary Jobson back on - Grab Norman Chad off the poker and add those little pop ups ...build in the excitement like that reality show you were talking about.
NASA has brought us many, many technological developments over the years, that have made our day to day life better. Along those lines racing, cars or sailboats, brings technological advances to us. My opinion is that ANYTHING goes...... You can build a boat whatever way you want. One rule, propulsion must be from wind. (Otherwise it's not a sailboat race anymore) Lets see what they can come up with to make it go 45, 50, 55.......
