Looks like it might work like leading edge slats on an airliner. Increases air flow over the topside of the wing which increases lift a low speed.

Well, at least it is on the seam. Shouldn't be too hard to repair, and you've got all winter.

but on the double seam it fraed away ,

may be a patch there ?
Im not sure how that gets fixed .

were taking the boat out this weekend , .....live broad cast from the marina :D
I didnt even notice ....must have just happend on my last sail .

and I wanted to get a spinnaker !!

If you don't do sewing work yourself, send it to Sail Care. They'll repair the seam, check over the entire sail, and if you have them clean it, you'll get a pretty sail back all ready for next season!

Yeah, Ford City, PA. They're good people. I've sent several sails to them over the years. Always got good results.
