The engine (2001 9.9 merc 4 stroke that needs a cowl) was underwater but the first thing when I got it back to the dock was get it off and pickled in some fresh water. After a bit I drained all fluids, soaked it down in wd40, replaced fluids and filter and got it running. After about 1/2 hour of high idle, changed the crankcase oil again and wd40'd again. Engine is now sitting on a stand in the garage. Pretty sure I have the same winches. The ?8? was not too bad and I havn't gotten to the 16's yet. Pretty straight forward to clean and I used Penn fishing reel lube for rebuilding. As for the vents, not sure. If you do find them I will get a measurement of the opening and the mounting screws and see if they can be swapped. If will they fit, let me know what you want for them and we can work something out.
Catalina Direct sells a replacement vent for about $35 and their description seems to indicate they were interchangeable over a wide range of models. The new ones are S/S and plastic.
Rich, The two vents I have are a different style from the original ones on my C-22 (I was going to replace both, just haven't gotten to it) but look very much like the vent on your boat's aft starboard corner; all metal with a creased ridge on top, 2-3/4" tall, 3-7/8" wide base at the front. Are you missing the one on the aft port corner? The two mounting holes at the front are 2-1/8" center-to-center, and there is an outside tab at the rear for the third mounting hole. The chrome plating is worn about 1/4" to 1/2" all around both pieces at the base. I'm asking $40 plus shipping for the set. If you want them, email me your address and I'll find out the shipping cost. Edit: Shipping should be about $10 based on a dry run at the UPS store using a randomly picked Long Island zip code.
Hey Rich, Just read your story and how your boat adopted you. I too have a similar story. I read where you need cushions. I've been making new covers for my 25 the past week or so (it's been too cold to do anything outside). I have never sewed anything, but armed with a little Singer sewing machine and Don Casey's compendium "Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance", I've done a pretty good job recovering two cushions and the second one is better than the first. Take your time, follow Don's book (Sailrite also offers a six-page pamphlet) and you'll have a pretty fair replacement at a third of the price. Best of luck! Tom Windsong 82 TR/SK 3108
I have the old cushions drying but I am not sure if I will be able to reuse the foam since it will probably become moldy. I have the old fabric covers to make templates out of though.
Rich, here's a nickel's worth of free advice: Keep the foam. If it can't be salvaged, go to your local fabrics store (I'm quite the hit with the ladies at my local Jo-Ann's Fabrics!) and buy replacement foam there. It ain't cheap, but use the old foam as a template for the new foam. Then make your new covers using the foam as the template. Get Casey's book, if you haven't already, and follow his advice. Best of luck! Tom C-25 TR/SK 3108 Windsong Stevensville, MD
I refinished the bunk room on my Pacemaker this past summer. Foam was ordered online and worked out very well. Cutting was no problem and the people who have slept on the beds said it was very comfortable. I'll have to dig out the ordering site and see check the other thicknesses available since the Cat foam is thinner. As to the covers, I don't see it being a very hard task, but finding the time and motivation to get it rolling will be the hardest part.
Renzo and I are going to do the official kharmic refloat ceremony from afar as we both believe that good boats do have souls. Renzo, clean up aisle 6! Good save! The wiring is shot, depending on how long she was under. Motor - good luck!
Have fun!

Got out yesterday for a quick sail and this evening for about 45 min at sunset. First day was under main sail only and today got the jib out as well. Handled fine and is a fun boat. Still need to find a 4 stroke Merc 9.9 engine cover and stainless railing for the aft but should be fun for the summer.
Great job! It's definately a good feeling reviving a project like this. I did the same to my sportscar. Dead motor, rust, and got it for $300. But now when people ask about it, I always start with "I brought it back from the dead...." I bet you'll do the same, and feel the same when saying it.
I revived this over the years as well. Found it about 10 years ago with a connecting rod through the block and almost no floors. My other winter project was a new transom, paint job, and other miscellaneous things for this: And if all goes well I'll have this back in the water this weekend:
