Why do they have the tarps under each boat? I've never seen that before.

Chris, The tarps beneath the various boats probably has to do with concerns about leaching of toxic materials from bottom paint. New York requires that yards collect this material. I've never seen this done except when stripping bottom paint or applying bottom paint.
