I guess it depends on the condition of the motor. $1400 may be a bit high for a 1993 unit, but Yamahas are more expensive here than Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury. However, Yahama does put the shifter on the tiller handle, making it very convenient. I paid about $1850 last year for my Nissan 9.8 extra long shaft elec start. It is $2,050 today from the same vendor. Again, I have no idea who the seller is.
Yamaha also sells a tiller cable extension for this motor. The tiller handle comes off the engine and can be mounted in the cockpit. Remote throttle and gearshift for around $100.
Here is a 2005 Nissan 9.9hp 4 stroke, 25 inch, electric start for $1550 in Jacksonville Fl. Its not mine and I don't know anything about it but if someone is interested, I'll take a look.
You say Yamaha has a remote shift & throtle for their 9.8 for around $100? I have a 9.9 2004 Honda, electric start on my sailboat, and want to get a remote shift & throtle for it, but was told the cost would be over $500. Why is there such a difference. I would sure like to get the remotes for my Honda for around $100, or even $200. Anybody give me any help on this? Are you reading this Chris?
Roger, The Yamaha remote uses the original tiller with longer cables. The tiller handle then gets mounted in the cockpit with the cables led back to the outboard.
