I saw this idea posted in the Other forums and just wanted to post saying I LOVE IT!!

I can't see getting to California or Maryland very easily, but if we do a regatta anyplace in the great lakes region it becomes very do-able for me. If not as Skipper, then for sure as crew. One caveat though - the summer is filling very quickly. If we are going to do this we should establish the schedule very shortly.

I would be willing to organize/host a regatta out of my club (Lake Simcoe, Southern Ontario) for folks who are up to trailering their boats this way. Being on the club executive, it would not be hard to pitch this. Although facilities at the club itself are limited, there is a hotel next door to the marina and a campground just down the road. We have about a half dozen transient slips and plenty of room to anchor/raft. I can approach the hotel for group rates if folks are interested. We also have 6 permanent race marks. If you are interested in doin gthis as a late-season race I can try to piggyback it onto the "Mount Gay Rum - Georgina Cup" which we host every fall as a Saturday/Sunday series. I have a lovely red hat and T-shirt from last year's race. The rum pour generally costs about $25 - $30 per boat and the race has about a $10 per day entry fee.

If we are interested in doing this, I will talk to the race organizer (a friend of mine) about adding a C-25 Spinnaker class and a C-25 JAM Class. Right now the fleet is limited to 3 classes (spin, JAM hi, JAM Lo). We would need enough boats in each class to make it worthwhile.

If we would rather have our own race at the club (independant of other events) that would be VERY easy to organize.

If you are interested, please post here and let me know!
