Just wondering - does anyone ever save the shrink wrap for use the following year? It seems to me it's as custom a fit as you can get...and at the cost of about $400, should last more than one season...
I had my boat shrink wrapped once, and reused it 3-4 years. It's really tough stuff. Even after it started to tear, I put it on and then put a new plastic tarp over it. It supported the plastic tarp so that it didn't have as much stress on the grommets.
I've seen it done... a few little cuts to release it, and then the next year you can use the plastic tape that's used for vents and doors, to pull the cuts together. It never fits as snugly as the first time... Thinking out loud, maybe you could tape on a few zippers, like you do to install doors in shrink-wrap, and then make the cuts under them. Then next year you could put the cover on and close the zippers to snug it down. I might try it. Although I don't know where I'd store the stuff... Ugh.
I saw on "Ship Shape TV" a material that is like shrink wrap, but is reusable. I think they run a cord (bungee) along the edge so you can release the shrink wrap from the boat and reattach it when needed. I have no affiliation and no idea if the product is worth while, but here is the link: http://www.transhield-usa.com/index.htm
Depends on where you are located. The plastic shrink wrap material is very susceptible to UV damage, especially if it is left out in summer like conditions. Once it begins to fail it goes very quickly. Rarely can a boat that is shrink wrapped survive more than one winter and summer exposed to the elements. So . . . if you try to use the material more for more than one winter be careful how/where you store it and how early/late in the season you keep it on.
