I saw that a few days ago and didn't have the heart to post it here. I'm not even sure that there is anything on it worth salvaging.

Having salvaged and rehabbed a better condition Cat25 than this I would part out whatever might be usable and put her out of her missery.

What I can't get over is that there is some guy asking about sails! Heck, I would be more interested if it has a title, or better yet, If it floats! He says he has a mast, Wasn't someone looking for one awhile ago? Strip the teak,Bow pulpit, sliding companion way hatch etc and sell it on E-Bay and trash the hull.

Anyone else notice the missing winches? Its already pretty close to a bare hull. The mildew on it makes me wonder about moisture issues. So does the ring around the salon. I wonder if someone will come along and make it beautiful again. If so it looks like a very long and expensive battle to me.

I just noticed that in the galley, beheath where the stove should be, there is a single opening door. I have 2 drawers on mine. Same thing beneath the sink. When did they change that over?

Sad to see, fixer-upper indeed. My initial thought was bid on it for the winches, etc., but as pointed out, they're already gone.

The inside looks pretty hacked up, so, possibly it was a sripped hull that someone picked up for free and then realized what he had gotten into. Life has it's share of more than interesting folk!

It also has the L-shaped dinette. I thought I saw a jib sheet winch in the first photo, just to the left of the ladder. Might have a viable compass.

On a more positive note: How about comparing it to some of the earlier hull numbers that are members here!

Who's got one?

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">That wasn't a design change that Catalina made. The number and location of drawers and doors in the galley area was an option that the original buyer specified when he ordered a new Catalina 25. If you planned to keep the boat for awhile, it made sense to order some of the options, like extra drawers for storage. I don’t think most of those drawer units were custom made for Catalina, so it‘s not difficult to add them later, but as I recall, Catalina‘s prices for them was very reasonable at the time.

The more I look at the pictures it is clear it went through a hurricane or other disastrous event and I doubt that anything on the hull is in good enough condition to even part out. And yet, true to EBay there are people asking questions. When really pristine looking boats are on Ebay no one asks a question -- but put a wreck on and the scavenger comes out!

I think this is just an abandoned boat sitting in some marina. Usually the owner dry docks the boat for some reason, looses interest or can't afforded the repairs and after a while the money he owes the marina for the storage is more than the boat is worth so he walks away. The marina thus takes possession of the boat to cover the guys bill and the boat ends up in limbo filling up with rain water ( did you notice the scum line inside?) Now the marina wants it gone, but it will cost them to have it crushed and hauled away, soooo put it on E-Bay, Get it hauled away for free and make a few bucks on top of the money they got for all the parts that are missing. Just my guess.

Yeah Deric, th esad thing is, that someone might do that and relist her for $3500.

And then the next buyer will hit her with putty and paint and suddenly she's being sold as a $8k boat...

It may not need near as much work as you think.
Some people don't mind working on boats.
If we threw away
everything that wasn't worth fixing up, we would have very few museums. If we throw away every boat that wasn't worth fixing up, there would be very few boats to choose from. No classic cars. No classic airplanes....
Our society is very short on elbow grease and long on credit.

If the hull itself is sound... stains can be cleaned up and bulkheads/cushions replaced. If the buyer is really handy and is patient, he/she just might end up with a good restored boat. some people really enjoy doing that sort of thing. If it does happen, perhaps the Association will benefit in the long run.

Mine is a 79 , has two drawers under the sink, but just one single door under the stove area.

pull drawers were an option in the 1970s era. My boat has all drawers under the sink and stove, but Mike's 1979 next door has just the doors.

Drawers are the much nicer option.

I've been working on mine forever. (6years now) I hope to have a very nice boat when it's all done. It takes a lot of patience and the one thing to NEVER do is say it will be done by a certain date. It gets done when it gets done. I'm enjoying working on it till it's done. The idea being it will require lots less work after that.
The weather and my job have slowed me down a lot over the past two years. Hopefully work will slow down a little this summer and massive progress will be accomplished.
Painted the engine room last night. First coat. S
econd coat tomorrow with a little luck.
It is also a blessing that my boat is indoors. Makes this lots easier.

I've got an 82 SRSK and it has the drawers under the sink and cabinet door under the stove, with the thru-hull valve for the icebox and sink in that cabinet. I also do not have a cabinet door under the V-birth, but I have no sink in the head.

I have to say I would run away from this boat screaming but there are those who get more enjoyment out of fixing a project up, and then when it's finished usually end up selling it and starting another project.

BTW I got my 82' C-25 for $700 with every cushion in mint condition including cockpit cushions, good main, storm jim, 110% working jib, and asymmetrical spinnaker. I was able to pickup a 9.9hp honda for $600 and I have a line on a trailer for $850. So the deals are out there if your patient and just a little bit lucky.

Deltarat, sounds like you found a rare jewel. A PO must have recovered the cushions or rarely used the boat. My V-berth, quarterberth, and salon seat back cushions are in good shape, but the salon seat cushions have a few worn spots.
