Did anyone else get some spam from Cruising Direct recently? Do you suppose they picked up our addresses here--along with "dropping in" on the forum with a couple of responses on sail trim? My address is listed with "No Spam" as a prefix--if they got it here, they edited it so it would work.

I got this message today....in fact, I recieved two emails of the same advertisement. Gary Hemet, CA
OK, its only two out of over 100 who read this thread--and both of us got two copies of the spam. Maybe they got our addresses elsewhere--such as from West Marine.

Well Richard, we apparently have a vedor who (1) scammed us with a fake "customer" testimonial on these forums, and (2) is apparently taking our e-mail addresses for his spam list. His spam offers no "remove" option, which is in violation of federal law. (But of course spammers are usually violating federal law.) That and some hot sauce tastes like a little like $#!+ to me.

Unless I am mistaken we have a “spam lamb”. I e-mailed the “CD sailmaker” at both his professional address and his customer address. I know he read the mail and has not responded. I contacted CD about him and I also made a few calls to North Sails reps with whom I’ve raced, they were not thrilled. We have a very precious resource here. The web site and forum is the heart and soul of the National Association, being vigilant is key to maintaining a spam and flame free forum. IMO we should let the subject fade into the distance. Good sailing to everyone. Good work Steve M.
Well with very little digging I’ve found our spammer. Seems young Mr. Kotoun is actually an accomplished collegiate sailor and is making his way around some of the bigger east coast regattas. He is also a coach on the jr. level. He was all American at St Mary’s. Most young sailors like that manage to get jobs selling sails to owners and their salaries depend on the sales. I’m sure he was just a little over zealous and will learn that spamming and posing as his own shill will only get himself and the sail loft in HOT water.
