I searched around and found posts on installing a zinc on the swing keel, but I have a couple questions I could not find answers to. Ok, so I read that ideally you want the zinc installed close to the pivot pin. Some others said closer to the keel cable.
The season before last I installed one on the trailing edge, but if I recall I drilled through the trailing edge more in the middle, maybe a little closer to the keel cable. Now, how much bare iron keel does the zinc need to contact? My marina recommended I grind down to bare metal underneath the zinc and I did a little bit. I don't remember if I put sealant in the hole before I bolted the zinc on, but without it, I'm wondering if the iron will corrode badly. I'm hauling out in a few weeks, so I'll see what kind of condition it is in then. What is the proper way to mount the zinc? Apply sealant? Grind down to bare metal?
Thanks,

I ground to bare metal for about 1/2 the area of the zinc and sealed the edges and the screw head. Leave the threads clean to insure good elctrical contact. Owner's manual says as close to the oivot as possible, and I put my third fairly close to the attachmen.
