OK, so maybe the Sailing Anarchy crap is getting to me. Maybe its spring fever. Maybe its that a guy from my club that PHRF's half of what our boats do is talking trash about how he is going to enter this. Maybe I should be visiting a mental specialist.

Who thinks our boats are up to a race of this calibre in the white sail fleet double handed, and who thinks its stoopid to even think of doing a race like this with one season of ownership under my belt and one set of sails...

Take a minute to register your boat with the association!!

FWIW, I think the Scotch Bonnet would be more appropriate. The 300 mile course could be a long haul in July with no wind. Our boats hold up fine in all but the nastiest weather on the Great Lakes.

It then depends on the condition of your boat, safety gear and knowledge of crew.

I crew on a Catalina 30 out of RYC so I get out there from time to time. I don't have a trailer so I don't get our boat out on that lake. Let me know if you need crew.

Still playing with the idea George, but it looks like it could get pricey pretty quick...

Haul-out at Simcoe $200
Launch at Port Credit $200
Race fee $185
Haul Out at Port Credit $200
Launch at Simcoe $200

I don't think I have $1000 to do a race. I have a friend with a C-27 in QCYC in Toronto, maybe I can convince him to enter. It would still be cool to do a race like that though.

One other thing, if you race with RYC folks, I'm not sure I would be up to your standards as a skipper. They have a reputation for strong tradition, seamanship, etc. down there. My club has a reputation for events that require large quantities of alcoholic beverages...

I agree that does get pretty pricey.

I got the Cat 25 partly for it's cooler carrying capacity so I believe in good balance of fun and competitiveness. I too would like to try such a distance race sometime.

The website says skippers are required to demonstrate long distance sailing experience to satisfy the RC that you're capable of dealing with whatever challenges arise, and also your boat will be inspected to ensure that it meets all the requirements for safety equipment. It doesn't appear that the mandatory equipment list has been posted yet. Also, your boat has to have a PHRF certificate, which is not a particularly difficult thing, but it does take a little time, and I believe you have to belong to a club, apparently for some reason related to insurance. On the Chesapeake Bay, there are clubs that you can join fairly inexpensively. I don't know if that's true of any clubs in your area.
