Can anyone recommend the best-ever fibreglass book out there? I am looking for something vry comprehensive that simplifies things for a guy who has yet to master tying his shoelaces. (I am not fibreglassing my shoes).

*EDIT* Back up the bus!! I just saw the "Advanced techniques" at the bottom of th epage great stuff there!! Thanks a bundle! */EDIT*

Thanks Don, its a good starting point. I was looking for something that was more project oriented. I was thingking of Don Casey's book on it, but then I saw "This Old Boat" also by Casey, and then I saw other books by other folks, adn I've gotten a recommend on the West systems book on here.

Right now I am leaning toward picking up a copy of the West System users manual, and the Fibreglass book by Casey, unless someone reports that CAsey's FG book is just an excerpt from "this old boat", in which case I'll get that.

Or someone comes along with another recommendation.

I have the Casey book and the West System books. They are both good sources and work well together.

Free plug for your fellow Canadian. Steve Blackburn has an online bookstore where you can probably purchase these.

I always look through Half Price books for anything on repair, upgrading, techniques, etc. You can find a copy of Chapmans there for less than half the price of a new one (funny how that works).

I've found most of my Don Casey books there. I think the only one I've paid full price for was "Inspecting the aging sailboat".

In addition to Don Casey's books and the WEST System guide, I've really liked this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Fiberglass-Boat-Repair-Manual/dp/0071569146/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8& s=books& qid=1240282165& sr=8-4

Sorry for the messy hyperlink, I'm not sure how to code these in a more tidy fashion.

Thanks David!

Don Casey has a series of very well written and illustrated books on the subject. Difficult to do better when it comes to repairs and maintenance.

For fiberglass repairs:
<b>This Old Boat, Second Edition: Completely Revised and Expanded</b>

<font color="red"><b>$31.32</b></font id="red">

For a general "Sailboat repair guide"
<b>Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual</b>

<font color="red"><b>$31.68</b></font id="red">

Hey Steve, do you ship from Canada, and if the books are crossing the border can I stipulate USPS rather than UPS?

I'm afraid not. The store ships from a variety of US bookstores. When you order books on my site, it looks up about 100+ bookstores for the best price and availability then shows you the results. Amazon is one of the vendors. I do plan to have a Canadian site, but for the moment your best bet is to order it from Amazon.ca. Thanks for thinking of ordering it from Sailboatbooks.com though!

Chris,

This guide that I got for $5 is now free online, and has more info than the Casey book. It's all about fiberglass boat work.

Fiberglass-Boat-Repair-and-Maintenance

You'll need to follow the basic epoxy working instructions in the other West System guides for mixing and applying, but this guide shows examples of just about all the fiberglass structures in your boat and how to rebuild and fix them.

Get a good micron-particle filtering respirator, too.
