As I wrote above, I went to a sign shop. If I remember right, the boat name caps are 6" and lowercase letters are 4". Seems like I paid about $45 for the boat name (2 sets) and another $20 for the reg numbers at the bow. I applied the lettering while the boat was in the water. Somehow, in the slip, the letters looked bigger.

Since it's not all caps, 8" might be a little better, but I think it's fine. From an aft view it looks good, but it looks a little small from a more forward angle. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
Perfect size and colors. Man does that boat look good. I want one!
Thanks for the compliments. I just finished a ton of work, including polishing three times the past couple weekends prepping her to splash this Friday. The finish is not original; the previous owner had the hull professionally painted in Awlgrip.

Fast shipping and very good prices. If you order before April 30 use promo code SPRING and they will take 50% off the total. Can't beat that. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> Scott, thanks for the tip. I just put in my order, just in time for the 50% off, and can't wait. PiSeas II has been naked for 2 1/2 years now. I will post when completed. Thanks again. Steve A
I believe my font is approximately 6". But the capitals are considerably larger due to the tails on them. I bought mine from Boat US over 3 yrs ago. They have a print shop adjacent to one of their Headquarters Bldgs in Virginia. When I smudged one of the letters on the dock, they cut me an extra strip in same color (no charge) to use to patch up minor blemishes, etc.
I'm still trying to come up with a good name for my boat. "Grumpywife" didn't go over too well, lol. I think its a brilliant name, though. The cause of probably 95% of sailboat ownership, and at least that percentage of hours spent on said boat.
Another note on the letters from the order. They state that you must apply them within 5 days of recieving. They state that the label will start sticking to the paper when applied and may not go on well.
I am going to apply mine tomorrow. I will post pictures after I have it done.
I've seen it done wet, but I applied mine dry. Both seem to work fairly well, although wet may allow you to correct mistakes easier. The easiest way I was told to apply the letters/numbers was to put painters' blue masking tape all the way across the top of the cover paper holding the letters and use that to affix the entire "package" to the boat. The tape will act as a top hinge. Then you flip the "package" up and start removing the backing paper as you slowly lower the "package" in a curling motion and use the supplied squeegie to smooth out any bubbles. Once the letters are all the way down and smoothed out, you can remove the cover paper. It's an easy process, just be careful removing the backing paper.
Well, got the new name on the boat tonight just before the rain hit. Had to put it a little lower then I had wanted, but i was trying to cover up the ghost image from before. I was thinking about putting a star or something up between the two words to even it out. Any ideas.
That is a good idea. The site I ordered from can do art work that is submitted. Now all I need is someone in the group who can do good art work. I was thinking a swirling line of some sort.
I went out this morning to (finally) get around to putting our registration # on the bow. All went well, right up to the last digit, which refused to stick. Arrr. serves me right for storing the numbers in the basement for over a year. Now I need to call up my sign guy for a '7'. I feel so dumb.
Chris, When I order my stuff, they specifically said install in 5 days. Guess you weren't warned! But a year later! You cant get the "7" from local store like WM or hardware store?
I got my lettering from a local signmaker, I'm just gonna call him back and tell him I need a 7 to match th erest of the numbers. Its not like they faded in the basement or anything.
Steve, Looks great! I was very happy with there lettering and am glad you are too. I notice you have some of the letters under the cleat, Be careful if you hang a fender there. Maybe get a soft cover for the fender.
Thanks Scott. Ya I was so happy with them that I am trying to get them as a sponsor and get discounts for our member. Keep you posted. I use that cleat located above name only for dock line. But you are right a fender might injure poor PiSeas II. Steve A
