A couple of years back my brother found an Osage Orange tree in Northern California to make bows from. My other brother & I went down to his place in OR to help him split out the blanks, since both of them make bows. Since I don't, I got the scraps that were left over, as well as the stuff that wasn't suitable for bow limbs. I turn pens from it on my lathe occasionally and thought you guys might be interested. The barrels are cut from the same piece of wood that shows off the heart & sap wood well. It has a mineral oil, wax & turpentine finish that will mellow with age, and the color of the wood will darken significantly, especially if exposed to sunlight.
It's a Parker mechanism, so replacement cartridges are easy to find.
$35 shipped.

David, Yep, I think you're right, it is a Cross mechanism. I've long since lost the instructions for the pen kits I've got, and I just went from (apparently faulty) memory. Thanks.
Randy, Thanks. I'm planning on cutting pen blanks from my old tiller. I think the ash/mahogany laminations will make a striking pen. Would any of you guys be interested in having one?
One of the guys on the forum ordered three pens for himself, his dad & father in law for Father's Day. I started work on them yesterday and finished them this afternoon. For contrast, you can see Rita's pen in the background, one of the first ones I ever made, maybe five years ago. In my first post I mentioned how Osage Orange is photo sensitive, and you can see how dark her's has gotten with age & use. Oils from your hand and exposure to light give it a really nice patina over time. Pretty, huh?
