Was working on mounting a Radio / CD Player in my 250 in the cabin, under the starboard side bench seat. Yes, Mine didnt have one in her already. Spent some time getting the right mounting parts and making the correct measurements. Just before braking out the drill to start the first hole, i checked to make sure nothing was under the seat and in my way....
Thats when i found a Hull ID maker plasted on the same panel i was going to cut out!!! DRAT!!
Now i have to find a new place to mount the radio...Im not big on the idea of under the sink (the whole water and electronics issue!). Im pretty sure im just going to move it down a few inchs and keep it in the same general location.
SO, wheres yours mounted..Photo?? Thanks

Steve,
We have a boombox we use, so I won't be tons of help. I know at least of us has their mounted through the wall into the head with an enclosure on the back to dress up the rear end of the radio. Not sure how they ran wires for speakers & power though. I know one of PO's of my boat ran power to our compass light via the light in the head, which I don't like, but I'm not going to fix it, as least not until I move the compass to the starboard side (for some reason it just seems like it should be there to me). Or, more likely, replace it with one of the reads in the cabin too compasses, can't remember off hand who makes them.

I think other guys have mounted theirs on the aft end of the galley below the breaker panel, pretty much out of the way of water. What about in the port settee instead of the starboard? Running wires through the bilge isn't difficult, and there's easy access under the galley back up to the breaker panel for power. Or even on the forward settee, just above the water tank? I'm not sure it'd fit there, but it seems like there was room above the tank last time I looked in there (we have a WK so dimensions may be different). And I just realized you have a WB so running wires through the bilge may not be as easy as ours. However, you could still run wires from the port settee up forward and back down through the starboard settee to get power & speakers run.

Steve, mine is mounted at the aft end of the galley below the breaker panel, like David mentioned above. I have 2 speakers mounted inside and 2 outside. Glad to provide pics if you want.

Mine was mounted by the prior owner under the sink facing the cockpit. I think I'd prefer it to be by the panel, but the hole is already there, so it will stay until I fashion some sort of silverware drawer or something to fill the cutout. The biggest problem is the front aux in that hooks to the ipod is constantly in the way there. I suppose I also replace it with one with a rear aux input.

I had a water problem in the boat when I bought it, but it was coming from the companionway hatch, once repaired, I removed the radio that was making funny noises and was constantly on even with the breaker turned off, poured the water out, baked it in the oven at 170 degrees for 45 minutes, reinstalled it, and it fired up fine. no problems since. Just adding that to say that even filled with water and mildly shorting out, they can be tough little creatures.

I got a cool gizmo for my XM radio that plugs into the cigarette lighter and supplies 6V DC to my XM receiver, but it also has a subminiature 1/8" stereo line plug (stereo headphone plug) that plugs into my XM, my CD player, my computer and my "non-Ipod" flash memory-based MP3 music player.

When the gizmo is plugged into the 12V cigarette lighter receptacle, it powers a small stereo FM transmitter with settings for 87.7, 87.9, 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7 MHz, as well as 107.1 - 107.9.

Long story short, whenever I want to listen to an "aux in", I plug in this adapter and tune my FM radio to an unused frequency, and I have the full fidelity and power of my boat radio.

And, if the radio in the cabin is turned down while I'm at the tiller, I can turn up my portable radio and listen while I'm in the cockpit.

My radio/cd is under the sink and I have had no electronics issues.

and the speakers

This made running the power line easy up to the circuit box and the speaker wires through the settee around to the speakers.

The PO mounted the stereo overhead, to starboard as you enter the cabin, above the galley area with one of these

I don't think that link takes you to the correct item, it's Universal Mount, Defender part # 256743

I'm happy with the location, it's out of the way and no cutting involved, short wire run to the DC panel.

thanks for the photos and input guys...piseas, Id like to see photos of your radio, if you please..I think you have a different breaker panel configuration that allows for the radio mounting (different model year boats!). zebra50, thats the mount configuration im talking about not doing due to the chance of water intrusion, from a possible leaky gallery sink..Although, i like where your speakers are mounted in the cabin.. Tradewind, good idea, although ive already spent the money on a Jensen panel mount with face cover! Might have to re-think it and get one of those mounts..Came across one of those mounts, in white, at a shop while on my quest to find the Jensen mount!

Im thinking about two sets of speakers also, 2 in the cabin and two outside..the radio I currently have has a remote control with it, so no worries about volume and singlehand! I dont have catbird seats, so im looking for another place to mount the outside speakers, and watching the other thread on speakers as well, http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19592

The radio i have does not however have aux input or ipod connection, does have cd changer rear connection..thus im thinking about a different radio as well!!
