I have a 84 SR. I have read several post on travelers and have an idea for a change on mine. I have a brochure on a newer Catalina 25 not sure what year, but it loks like the traveler is mounted on a cross piece on the stern pulpit. I was wondering what everyone thought were on cutting the pulpit and putting a cross piece using T's. You could then mount a piece of track on it and use a good car on it. It looks like it would be longer then my present set up.

If the traveler is longer there still won't be much of an advantage because the most you need or want to move the boom is to the center line of the boat. Once there, the use of the mainsheet and the vang are the sail shape controls that are used, plus a cunningham if you have one. It doesn't appear to be a worthwhile mod.

Some of my C-22 racing friends bolted a piece of T-track directly to the round traveler bar, angled slightly forward and put a good car on it. I'd suggest going that route first, be a lot easier than modifying the stern pulpit.
