What is the mast support in the main bulkhead made out of? I want to install a few coat hooks on it and was wondering if it's solid enough to hold with simple wood screws, or is it just a veneer?

It will definitely hold your screws for coat hooks. It is veneer covered plywood or just teak plywood. Otherwise it wouldn't hold up the mast right?

Well yes, of course. But I was more concerned with the wood holding the weight of whatever may be placed on those hooks, most likely being wet foulies.
