Thanks, Tom. I hope you had a great time.
If weather cooperates, I'm sailing to Ocracoke next weekend. Otherwise, there are dozens of other places I look forward to visiting - more than I could possibly visit in just two months. I'm going to try to make it up to Belhaven. I'll let you know.
I love your SW winds!

"I love your SW winds!"

One thing for sure this time of the year they are pretty constant!

The Ocacroke trip was great, except the forecasted weather report (10-15 SW) for the trip over last Friday turned into 20-25 with gust to 33 SW by the time I approached the VERY narrow channel into Silver Lake. I had the little diesel pegged and was making 3 knots while taking 4-6 footers on the bow. 4-6 footers don't sound like much unless your on the Pamlico Sound. The shallow waters of the sound make it very interesting.

There are some State Park docks available first come first serve next to the ferry that are $1.25 per foot and $3.00 per day for power and water. There is a marina's there that charges $2.50 per foot but has facilities and a pool.

Everything is pretty much walking distance on the island, lots of shops for the wife and good seafood to eat.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Study the chart, there are some shoals out in the sound and the channel leading into Silver Lake is tricky.

If your looking for something to do May 21 & 22 give this a try. I placed 3rd in the cruising class last year with Knotty Cat. This year will be a blast with on O'DAY 28, I am hoping not to come in last. Its laid back party time, plenty of food, entertainment and dancing. Marina's in town are cheap for the event.
