Me too, I am looking for an 86 or newer shoal draft wing keel, with a trailer cause I would like to use this in florida some of the time with shallow waters I need to get through and moor it in. the plan is keep it down there in winter, bring it back up here for summer, so good trailer is essential. 10K or so is my budget too.
Sorry, "up here" is upstate new york, fingerlakes, Cayuga Lake to be specific. Depth is no problem here, about 500 feet deep and it drops off quick from shore, but the florida spot is shallow, I see my neighbor's sailboat list over to one side a little when the tide goes out on the intracoastal/Indian River.
You've got that right cayugaboater. I'm in Daytona and I love my wing keel. Would be more difficult with a fin. Of course even with a w/k you better keep it between the sticks!
Hi Dave, my place is down near jensen beach, neighbors moor their boat out in front, so I've got a hundred feet of frontage on the Ind. River too, like them, so my plan was to moor mine out there too. My ultimate plan would be, if the boat could do it, would be to make the crossing to the Bahamas, but everything I read indicates that's no small feat during the non-summer months. Do you think a catalina 25 could do that? Ed.
That's encouraging! Nautical miles don't seem that far from coming out of st. lucie, but i just keep reading all these HORROR stories, enough to make you say hmmmmm.....
