Hi everyone,

I went to work on the boat this weekend and I stumbled across this piece of hardware ... what is it?

I couldn't find the mast bolt the first time I stepped the mast, so I bought a new one from Catalina Direct ... do you think the PO used this in place of a mast bolt?

Buzz,

When i was but a child I took a public speaking course and we had to take a piece of hardware and speak positively about what it was. Is this that kind of game? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Seriously, my knee jerk, not knowing size would be something to do with the motor mount. Just a guess.

It looks like the tilt support rod from an outboard motor. It slides
through the holes, spring loaded, and the folding end is supposed to prevent it from falling out. Perhaps the PDO removed it ?

That looks like a Honda outboard trim angle pin. Under/behind a Honda outboard motor mount there's a series of holes. Which hole that pin is in determines the angle between the motor and the transom when the motor is tilted in the down (running) position.

Ya, I knew I'd seen it! A trim angle pinfrom an ob. It does look the one on my %^&$** Honda.

Looks just like the trim pin from one of the Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury 2.2 - 3.5 h.p. engines

LOOKS LIKE THE TRIM PIN ON MY NISSAN OB. ONLY DIFFERENCE IS IT IS SHINY AND THE NISSAN IS PAINTED THE SAME COLOR AS THE MOTOR.

Everyond above (except Richard) is CORRECT! <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> I doubt that it would work on the tabernacle, since the length has to be just right so the spring maintains pressure to hold the little swivel tab against the bracket and perpendicular to the pin. If it's too long, the pin could slide out of the tabernacle, and... <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

When the fish is flop'n in the cockpit, anything close works -- wooden club, winch handle, motor tilt thingy, empty beer bottle, wife's hairbrush, etc.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

That is a tilt rod, but I do believe it is from an older outboard...probably an OMC built piece of equipment
