Does anyone know how well a C25 (1984) would fit on a trailer made for a J24? It's the style with the half moon forward cradle and then 4 screw jacks aft. I'm looking at buying a J24 with a trailer, being able to haul my Cat with it would be bonus.

Edit: I'm not wondering if it would be a direct fit. I'm wondering if anyone here is familiar enough with both of these boats to know if the dimensions are similar, particularly forward of the keel on the bow where it would rest in s forward cradle. I don't mind doing slight mods and improvements to the trailer to accommodate both boats. I'm just wondering if its doable.

I can't answer your questions, but suspect the problem might not be with the sizes and general configurations of the two boats, but with the weights of the two boats. The Catalina is much heavier than the J24, and it is likely that the J24 trailer won't be sturdy enough to carry the Catalina.

If you check the load-bearing capacity of the trailer, that might answer your questions.

The two have the same draft, but the J probably has a deeper keel (less hull below the waterline), so the bunks and jacks will have to be set differently. Otherwise the C-25's keel might be suspended on the trailer, which it should not be. An alternative might be to use some sort of blocks under the C-25 keel... (?)

The J24 is much lighter, the C25 requires double axles and at least 6000# capacity, not so with the J24.

I hauled out our 84 C-25 swing keel for repairs last summer using a friend's dual axle J-24 trailer with the "half-moon" front support, and we did not have to adjust the pads. The weight issue we encountered was that we were extremely tongue-light, even with a few big rocks on the front of the trailer, but we weren't going far with it, just across the street. Even so it was scary, someone had to stand on the tongue until we got the tow vehicle hooked up. A fin keel C-25 might ride better, since most of the keel weight is vertical instead of swept back.
I definitely would not try to haul out a C-25 with a single axle trailer.
