As to the blustery day, was this Saturday or Sunday?
I was out both days on Lake Erie and wow, what a sled ride! On Saturday, I rooster-tailed it all the way to West Sister Island and back, about 23 miles each way. The lake was a sea of whitecaps with streaks of foam littering the surface. On Sunday it was much the same and the winds blew me out to Middle Sister island and back (about 17 miles each way) The waves were pretty good sized both days and I was getting some pretty good surfing action running down the quartering waves. It was one of the best sailing weekends I've had all summer!
We went to the Sandusky boat show on saturday, but it would have been a spectacular day on the lake. We had to leave a little early on sunday, so we decided to just mess around at the marina and take a trip to WM instead of going out for an hour.
Chris liked the C-350, but thought it was to big, and they didn't have anything smaller in the Cat line. I was hoping that she could see the older 309 that was still unsold, but it has gone to brokerage. There was a discounted Hanse 30, but the cat urine-like odor in the cabin would require a much bigger discount. The Hunter 27 added a lot for its 2 feet, but no backstay means it's not for us. I guess we'll just wait for the 309/310 line to get a little older. I'm looking forward to the Miami Strictly Sail show this winter (and a few days in the Keys).
I was at the Newport Boat Show this weekend, and they were showing the Cat 308 and the 375. I loved the 308.
Hellier Yachts in New London told me they got a 1995 Cat320 back as a trade-in from a single owner, and it lists for $69,500, but she's completely decked out with all the goodies. Nice to dream about . . . .
Also at the show, Defender Industries was selling waterproof handheld VHF radios for $42 each, and I could not resist. It comes with a 12VDC charger.
The Norwalk Boat Show starts this Thursday. I plan on meeting a buddy to walk through. Don't think I'll be buying anything much.
