i'm in need of the nissan 9.8 ob shift linkage adjustment proceedure. chris collins of online outboards suggests that i might find the adjustment sequence in their shop manual but didn't have a copy handy, so i thought that someone here might be a quicker source.
Val, The Tohatsu 4-Stroke 8-9.8 Service Manual (p/n 303723) contains no procedure or diagram of the shift linkage. I know on the Honda engine it could be adjusted at the connection point under the engine hood. I would start there. If someone has the Nissan manual they may be able to provide a different perspective.
Thanks Joe. I had a freeky situation present itself in which I lost reverse and then overnight it corrected itself. In contact with Chris Collins he remarked that he didn't have any info regarding the issue and so I thought I remember having come across someone on forum mentioning that he had the shop manual. Thought I'd give it a try.
Val, I had a problem with reverse on my Tohatsu a while back, and ran across the posting of it while searching for the manual online for you yesterday. As I remember there are a couple of screws on the connector piece that'll allow you a bit of adjustment. I still have some problems getting into reverse, but I think it's more related to my tiller mounted control's throw than the outboard itself. I intend to adjust the linkage over the winter while I've got the boat in the side yard.
I was able to find what looked like a shop manual in PDF form, but the site required that you sign up, and I wasn't positive that it really was a shop manual, plus there wre a lot of links to documents in Russian, or at least with .ru extensions, and I've learned to be very wary of anything online from a .ru. site. If you want to try it out for yourself, I'll send you the link, but I think it's a suspicious site so I'm not including it here. Personally, I'd rather spend the $30 for the manual than have my inbox slammed with spam, viruses, etc.
